Editing documents

Open a document from the sidebar. The editor is a single centred column with a status strip above it: document actions on the left, save state and history on the right.

Formatting with /

At the start of a block (nothing but whitespace before it), type / to insert a block type: Heading 1–3, Quote, Divider, Image, Image gallery. Typing a space closes the menu. Image and gallery items appear only on documents that have an image bank.

Three entries insert the story template instead of a single element:

• Story template (script only) — fills the script with its opening: a title block, an Overall Story Direction line and a first scene section. On an empty script it replaces the blank block; elsewhere it lands where you typed the /.
• Scene section (script only) — one block holding a Scene N — Title heading over labelled items: References, Story Beat, Action, Visual / Camera, Dialogue / Narration, Voice / Performance, Audio / SFX / Music, New / Changed. N counts on from the highest scene heading already in the script. The whole section is one block, so linking it links the scene; press Enter at the end of the heading to add a line inside the section rather than split it.
• Reference template (any other document) — the sections a reference keeps: What is it?, Description, Reference Images / Media, Consistency, Avoid, Additional Notes. The sidebar’s + button offers the same skeleton as a new Reference document.

Bracketed hints are placeholders to overwrite; Manan treats an item that still holds one as empty. See The story template.

This is not the same / as in the Manan composer, which invokes skills.

The selection menu

Select text to get a bubble menu with formatting and, on the script, the scene actions described in From script to scenes. Two actions apply to any document:

• Extract to block — pulls the selected sentence out of its paragraph or heading into its own block, so a scene can point at just that line. The selection must sit inside a single paragraph, heading or, on the script, list item — selecting the words of a scene section’s Dialogue item moves them to a block of their own right after the section, ready to link as voiceover.
• Ask about this — prefills the Manan composer with the quoted passage (up to 500 characters). Nothing is sent until you press send.

Moving blocks

Each block has a drag grip in the left gutter. Drag to reorder.

Mentions and images

Type @ inside a document to reference another document or a picture from an image bank. Pictures live in the document’s image bank: named entries, each with its own version history (open the version strip on an image to restore an earlier one). Insert an image or a gallery from the / menu, or ask Manan to generate one straight into the bank.

Saving

The status strip shows Saved, Saving…, and after Ctrl+S / ⌘S Checkpoint created or Already checkpointed. On shared projects you may also see Conflict resolved — see Collaboration. Ctrl+S never opens the browser’s save dialog while a document is open.

Export

Export as Markdown downloads the document’s blocks as a plain .md file.

Renaming and deleting

Rename any document except the script and Memory from the sidebar. Deleting a document promotes its children to its parent. The script cannot be deleted.
